The outstanding things are the happy moments I spent with the children — says Luci

My name is Lucy, I am 19 years old and hail from Austria. For the past 10 months I have been working in Don Bosco Navajeevan Bala Bhavan, Vizag, Andhra Pradesh. The main areas of my work are teaching in Beach Blossom School, which is a Bridge School for the mainstreaming of school dropouts. I spend time with Shelter children too in playing games, listening to their stories, teaching songs, dance, etc.

To summarize all my wonderful Indian- experiences in a few sentences, seem almost impossible, because they are too many. When I go down the lanes of memory, the outstanding things are the happy moments I spent with the children who are not privileged to have a loving natural family, the games I played with them and the moments of relaxation and entertainment. Far away from home and Fatherland,  I feel very much at home here thanks to the Salesians, Staff and children who make feel very much at Home in this large Navajeevan Family. Never a moment I felt that I am an outsider or a stranger. Of course there were moments of fears and challenges before I came to India and in the initial days.

The change of role from a student to that of a teacher was not easy. But the Salesians and my colleagues supported me and instructed me about the Preventive System of Don Bosco. Here in Don Bosco I receive as much or more than what I give.
