09 April 2020

A two day volunteers’ meet for all the foreign volunteers working in various Navajeevan Centres of the Province was convened on 5th and 6th of July 2014 in the Provincial House, Hyderabad. Ten volunteers from Austria and Germany working in three of our centres for the young at risk (Vizag, Vijayawada and Hyderabad) participated in the meeting.

Fr Raminedi Balaraju, the Provincial addressed the volunteers and thanked them for their service. He reminded them about the preventive system through which the lives of the young are transformed. Presenting the Child policy, he briefed them about the rules, roles and responsibilities of the volunteers. Fr Thathireddy Vijay Bhaskar, the Vice-Provincial, was the resource person who animated the volunteers through the day. All the volunteers shared their experiences, some with the help of photographs, power point presentations and videos.

In the afternoon session, Fr Vice Provincial presented and discussed the Child Policy and Child Protection Policy with the volunteers. He elaborated the rules for the volunteers envisaged in the Child Protection Policy. In the evening there was a ‘face-to-face’ session with three of the Navajeevan past pupils: Vishnu (Dance Master), Shyam Sunder (Graduate) and Firoz (Pursuing College Studies). They shared their experiences at Navajeevan with the volunteers and answered various queries. The volunteers learned a lot from this interactive session. As most of the volunteers were completing their stay in India and at the Navajeevans, there was an evaluation in which they expressed that the volunteering experience was a life-time experience and that they learnt a lot of things. The volunteers expressed their joy about the selfless service rendered by the Salesians for the poor and needy street children.

As most of the volunteers are in a way fascinated by Indian cinema, especially the song and the dance part, they were treated for a day of outing at the famous Ramoji Film City.
