BIRDY — Bosco Institute of Research and Development for Youth

21 April 2020

A Brief History

Bosco Institute of Research and Development for Youth (BIRDY)was officially inaugurated on 23rd June 1996. The challenging vision of BIRDY is, “To set up a youth animation center going beyond the traditional activities of reaching out to the youth, to a Research and Development Center”. Hence the name BIRDY – a new way of being a community was formed.

BIRDY’S vision is to bring in a scientific temper into our Salesian Youth Ministry – A Research and Development Center for Youth Ministry! BIRDY functions through the departments of Youth Ministry, Animation of Youth Ministers (Adult Ministry), Research and Development, Don Bosco Nava Jeevan Centers, Bosco Yuva Darshan, Consultancy, Extension, Library and Documentation, Policy Analysis, Publication.

Youth Animation and training and Student Scholarship

BIRDY is a training-cum-research center, which reaches out to the youth, youth workers, youth policy makers, and the religious involved in the related fields. The special focus of BIRDY is the integration of Mastery and Mystery, carrying out its mission of liberation among the youth especially identified by the Province as the target group of its apostolic ministry. BIRDY in collaboration with the Lion’s Club Hyderabad and JMJ Sisters began to work for the Navajeevan for the Street Children in 1998 in Secunderabad. This work took momentum and now there are Navajeevan centers run by the BIRDY staff in different districts of Andhra Pradesh.

Vision:“We envisage a Salesian youth ministry of the province of Hyderabad (AP) which is, effective and scientific in its approach in responding to the signs of the times and keeping line with the vision, style and Spirit of Don Bosco and of the Salesian Congregation”.
